Renee zachman

Renee Zachman is an attorney with Law Enforcement Labor Services (LELS), Minnesota’s largest public safety labor union. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota in 2012 and was admitted to practice law in Minnesota in 2015 after graduating from Mitchell Hamline School of Law.

Since joining LELS in 2015, Renee has represented union members in hundreds of employment investigations. She has successfully secured the reinstatement of peace officers and correctional officers who were unjustly terminated. In addition, she has handled numerous contractual disputes on behalf of LELS, involving issues such as pay, benefits, and working conditions. Renee is committed to advocating for union members and takes pride in achieving favorable outcomes on their behalf.

A highlight of her career was appealing and successfully arguing a union representation case before the Minnesota Supreme Court. The decision upheld the right of public employees to organize and freely choose their labor representatives, even in the face of employer opposition.

Renee is passionate about supporting the essential work of Minnesota’s law enforcement and public safety personnel. She has testified before the Minnesota Legislature in support of labor and public safety legislation, and she recognizes the unique challenges faced within the law enforcement profession.

Before starting her full-time role at LELS in 2015, Renee served as a law clerk for the organization and held positions with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry and the National Labor Relations Board. She has maintained a lifelong passion for union advocacy and is dedicated to representing the interests of working professionals.
