James Ventura
James (“Jim”) Ventura has practiced criminal law for over 40 years. He defends clients statewide against Felony, Gross Misdemeanor, and Misdemeanor charges. His experience as a prosecuting attorney assists him in preparing a well-designed defense strategy.
Jim is licensed in State and Federal Courts including the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Ventura’s appellate success includes State v. Gault, State v. Victorsen, and Briles v. 2013 GMC Terrain. Jim is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been selected by his peers as a Super Lawyer every year since 1999.
He is a member of the Federal Public Defender Panel, belongs to County, State, and Federal Bar Associations, the Minnesota and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice. Jim is honored to have received an award from the Minnesota Supreme Court for being the 2014 Volunteer of the Year for his work with the Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board. He started as a volunteer with the Fourth District Ethics Committee. He progressed to supervising attorneys practicing under a probation restriction and has represented attorneys in contested discipline matters before the Board, Referees, and the Supreme Court.
